Add a Geography Component to your Language Arts Program
Interested in making more of your classroom reading time?
You love using Janie's books to help your students learn more about
history and the people of the United States?
Well, here is just one more way to help your students turn-on and tune-in
to history and make them want to learn even more.
Go to earthgoogle.com download the Google Earth program onto your computer and bring the world to your students. (Make sure after you have installed the "free" program that you take the tutorials under "help" to learn how to quickly "fly" over your state, the nation, and around the world.
How do you use this program in conjunction with Janie's books? Well, since Janie uses real historical settings, make a note of the locations mentioned in her stories, look them up on Google Maps and take your students on the great Niagara River and look over the falls, travel across the Grand River or follow the trails of the Under Ground Railroad. It's up to you just how much learning can take place with this wonderful tool. The download this "free"!
For free KMZ files to go with Janie's books, just contact her at Pandex@prodigy.net |
